I am a keen observer who loves to help people and ensure that people around me are not confused. I want to be a school counselor because I love to engage with students and dig through their thinking and perspective.

A school counselor plays a crucial function in a student’s life since, on occasion, parents of young children who are not well-educated are unable to discern whether their offspring are heading in the right direction.
Sometimes a youngster picks a course of action that is challenging to maintain throughout one’s lifetime. And parents tend to fail to put in valuable suggestions because of a lack of awareness. In such a scenario, I am glad to say that I keep myself updated as the problems and perspectives change daily. Rightly said, modern problems require modern solutions.
For me, nurturing school students is like taking care of a plant which requires a lot of understanding that every plant is different and requires a different kind of care. If we talk about careers today, there are so many options available to children that the child starts to become confused. Some people advise them to pursue art, commerce, medicine, and much more. As a school counselor, I would help kids determine their strengths, weakness, and skills to make the right choices.
Apart from the students, school counselors are approached by the school staff as well. The staff is mostly made up of grown-up adults who have family, jobs, and status issues. They need help with behavior control, stress management, and making them suitable enough to be left with minor students.
I am a detail-oriented person, which helps me to understand a person’s problems in a better way. Also, being empathic allows me to put myself in the person’s shoes. I would say that my interpersonal skills are excellent and very helpful. Needless to say, these three are the most important traits which a school counselor should own. These three things make me believe that my ability to be a school counselor fits me.
Apart from helping others, being a counselor is a beneficial job in consideration of personality development. The more people you meet, the wider your outlook toward society. Being a school counselor is quite flexible with decent compensation and a lot of career advancement opportunities as this is a newly born career option. And hence I want to be a school counselor.
Professional school counselors promote fairness and access to opportunities and challenging educational experiences for all children by combining leadership, advocacy, and collaboration.
A school counselor has greater knowledge than parents or teachers since he or she monitors changes in commonplace technological trends. There is, therefore, no danger to your child’s future. If I counseled a child, my priority would be to become his or her safe space. Making a welcoming, secure space for students to retreat away from the bustle of the hallways and classrooms is my favorite part of this school counselor job.
